It was not a spouse that I lost, but my father in a sudden accident in March. That night, as I grieved, he came to me. I did not see him, but I could feel him there. The woman I was seeing at the time, who had come over to comfort me, was also aware of his presence. We spoke for a while, my father and I, and was comforted.
The experience completely revamped my view of the afterlife. One of the strong impressions that I received was that he would be there, watching over the family and waiting for my mother.
When I spoke to my mother about this, she was upset that he had not come to her. He had, but she had been unable to see. He was with all of us.
From this I learned that sometimes that feeling that you have, the one that your loved one is about to walk through the door, or is next to you, or something else like that, is because they are really there.
Yes, I know it sounds a little cheesy, but it is what I have experienced. Perhaps not every couple goes through this, but I think that it is something to look for.
