On January 15, 2001, I recieved a phone call from my sister, Amarilys, boyfriends mom. She told us that while Joel was bringing Amarilys home. They were involved in a car accident. Immediately, we knew something was wrong because she didn't call to tell us herself. She always called to tell us if something happened. This time it was different so we were all scared and crying. We got to the hospital and never in a million years would I have thought I would see my sister the way she was. I knew that we were going to lose her, but I couldn't admit it to myself. I didn't say GOODBYE that day, but I did get a chance to tell her how beautiful she looked that day. She was so happy because she was wearing her new boots, new express jeans, and new shirt.
Two days later on January 17, 2001, my sister was pronounced brain-dead. This has been a terrible event in my life. My sister, Amarilys, was only 20 years old and honestly she just turned 20 on December 8, 2000. The hardest part of all is knowing that she couldn't do everything she wanted to do. But I'm hoping that someone can help me, but yet I'm also willing to help others. I am 17 years old and this is the first time I have had to deal with death and its been the worst feeling ever.
